• A professional examination to screen for cervical cancer and detect pre-cancerous lesions and atypical cells • Recommended for all women, especially those who are married or sexually active, at least once every 3 years starting at age 21, following 2 consecutive years of normal pap smears 1 year apart • May not be needed for women aged 65 and above who meet specific prior-normal-result criteria
