Malaysia is home to two of Asia-Pacific’s very best cardiac surgery hospitals. In the Newsweek–Statista Best Specialized Hospitals Asia Pacific 2026 ranking for cardiac surgery, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) placed #34 and Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) placed #40, the only two Malaysian names in the region’s top 50. Both are JCI-accredited, sit minutes apart in the Klang Valley, and run dedicated international-patient services with transparent pricing.

The two hospitals

Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur, is Malaysia’s largest dedicated heart hospital. Established in 1992, it runs 437 beds and has treated more than 3.7 million patients, covering CABG, valve, aortic and paediatric heart surgery, plus heart transplants. It carries four accreditations: JCI, MSQH, ISO 15189 and HIMSS.

Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC), part of Ramsay Sime Darby in Selangor, was established in 1985 and runs 442 beds with a team of 10 cardiologists. Its two Philips Azurion cath labs handle angiogram, angioplasty, ablation, pacemaker implantation and pulmonary-embolism thrombectomy. SJMC holds JCI, ACHSI and MSQH accreditation.

What a coronary angiogram costs

A coronary angiogram (the diagnostic catheterisation used to check for blockages in the heart’s arteries) has a typical bill of RM 8,800–18,300 (≈ USD 2,180–4,530) at Malaysian private hospitals, with a national median around RM 11,700 (≈ USD 2,900). The figures draw on a national private-facility claims sample of 5,000+ discharges, with an average length of stay of 2.0 days.

Location moves the number. In Kuala Lumpur, where IJN is based, the median runs about RM 11,600 (≈ USD 2,870), ranging RM 9,000–19,300. In Selangor, home to SJMC, the median is higher at about RM 13,400 (≈ USD 3,320), ranging RM 10,000–20,000. USD conversions use RM 4.04 to the dollar (Bank Negara Malaysia, August 2026).
